Gibbon

Purpose

Open-source school management platform for student information, admissions, attendance, timetables, planning, assessment and family access.

Decision Summary

Promising school-management candidate rather than a pure LMS; pilot against Indian school workflows, reports, localization and privacy needs.

Use Cases

K-12 MIS/SIS, admissions, attendance, timetables, student profiles, markbooks, lesson planning and parent portals.

Field Notes

Stores minors' and potentially medical/family data. Enforce strict roles, encryption, audit, retention and consent. Never use its Credentials module for important sensitive passwords.

Hardware Requirements

Apache 2/Nginx, PHP 8.0+ with required extensions, MySQL 8.0+ or comparable MariaDB, HTTPS, SMTP and protected storage.

Backup Strategy

Database, uploads, app/config files, modules, themes, jobs, certificates and integration credentials.

Recovery Strategy

Restore matching core/modules/themes, DB/uploads, run documented update if necessary, then test roles, attendance, timetable, reports and notifications.

Secure Boot Notes

Not directly applicable to this web/server platform. Keep Secure Boot enabled on supported host OS or hypervisor and use signed host components.
