LibreNMS

Purpose

Open-source SNMP network monitoring, discovery, alerting, graphing and inventory.

Decision Summary

Strong network-monitoring candidate that complements Prometheus/Grafana.

Use Cases

Monitor routers, switches, firewalls, servers, UPS and printers; capacity graphs, alerts and API integration.

Field Notes

Use SNMPv3 where possible. Protect credentials, never enable unnecessary write communities, and tune discovery/alert noise.

Hardware Requirements

Linux, PHP/web server, MariaDB/MySQL, RRDtool, Redis and polling jobs; SSD and 4–8 GB RAM practical starting point.

Backup Strategy

Database, RRD files, config, device secrets, alerts, dashboards and custom MIBs.

Recovery Strategy

Restore matching version, DB/RRD/config; revalidate pollers, alerts and representative device graphs.

Secure Boot Notes

Not directly applicable to this software/service. Secure Boot depends on the host OS, endpoint or hypervisor; keep it enabled where supported.
