Moodle

Purpose

Open-source LMS for courses, assessments, assignments, grading, collaboration, reporting and learning delivery.

Decision Summary

Strong default LMS candidate after load sizing, plugin governance, privacy review and recovery testing.

Use Cases

Schools, colleges, coaching institutes, staff training, customer education, blended learning, certification and examinations.

Field Notes

Prefer a supported stable/LTS branch. Stage-test upgrades and plugins. Never expose an unpatched installation.

Hardware Requirements

Supported PHP, web server and database, cron, SMTP and file storage. Production CPU/RAM/storage must be sized for concurrent users, plugins, reports and media.

Backup Strategy

Database, moodledata, code/config.php, plugins, certificates, SMTP/reverse-proxy config; automated course archives are supplementary.

Recovery Strategy

Restore matching code/plugins, database and moodledata; verify cron, queues, email, SSO and sample course restore.

Secure Boot Notes

Not directly applicable to this web/server platform. Keep Secure Boot enabled on supported host OS or hypervisor and use signed host components.
