Mattermost

Purpose

Self-hosted team messaging, collaboration, ChatOps, incident coordination, calls, integrations and operational workflows.

Decision Summary

Strong self-hosted collaboration candidate, but edition limits require a pilot, security review, Calls/network testing and restore validation.

Use Cases

Internal collaboration; project channels; DevOps/ChatOps; incident response; playbooks; private-cloud and air-gapped collaboration.

Field Notes

Confirm edition first. Team Edition is intended below 250 activated users without SSO and is not recommended for government or sensitive commercial workloads.

Hardware Requirements

Official Linux minimum: 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM and PostgreSQL 14+. CSI pilot: 2–4 vCPU, 4–8 GB RAM, SSD and monitored storage.

Backup Strategy

Encrypted versioned backups of PostgreSQL, configuration, files/object storage, plugins, integrations, certificates and manifests; onsite/offsite copies and tested restores.

Recovery Strategy

Rebuild from pinned versions, restore database/files/configuration, then validate auth, permissions, channels, files, integrations, Calls, search and retention.

Secure Boot Notes

Not applicable to the application; Secure Boot is an underlying host-platform control.
