Rclone
Purpose
Command-line data copy, synchronization and cloud/object-storage integration
Decision Summary
Retained in the CSI open-source backup catalogue for evaluation; not approved until lab testing and restore evidence are complete.
Use Cases
Replication or copy workflows; must be combined with versioning, isolation and retention to qualify as backup.
Field Notes
Legacy CSI reference entry. Validate official release, checksum/signature, licence, supported platforms, encryption, retention, monitoring and restore evidence before approval.
Hardware Requirements
Depends on protected data, change rate, retention, concurrency and restore targets; perform capacity sizing before deployment.
Backup Strategy
Synchronization alone is not backup. Add versioned snapshots, deletion protection, separate credentials and an offline/immutable copy.
Recovery Strategy
Restore to an isolated alternate location first, validate integrity and permissions, then perform controlled production recovery.
Secure Boot Notes
Secure Boot impact is generally indirect; agents, kernels, drivers and recovery media must be validated per platform.
Version History
Present in CSI open-source backup reference documents (July 2026); current release/version verification pending.
