Rescuezilla
Purpose
Bare-metal disk imaging and recovery
Decision Summary
Production Ready for manual bare-metal imaging and recovery; must be paired with separate frequent data/application backups.
Use Cases
Offline full-disk imaging, disk cloning, hardware migration and bare-metal disaster recovery.
Field Notes
Restore and clone operations are destructive if the wrong target is selected. Verify ISO checksum, label source/target disks, retain logs and perform a test restore where practical.
Hardware Requirements
x86-64 system, bootable USB media and reliable USB 3.x or network storage with sufficient capacity for the compressed image.
Backup Strategy
Create verified offline disk images to separate storage and record checksum, source, compression, date and recovery-media version.
Recovery Strategy
Boot verified media, restore to the validated target, then test boot, filesystems, network, applications and data.
Secure Boot Notes
Boot behavior depends on firmware and release signing. Validate the exact ISO on target hardware; disable Secure Boot only under an approved field procedure if required.
Version History
CSI verified version 2.6.2 on 25 Jul 2026; also retained in the legacy open-source backup-tool reference list.
